MGM+ is saddling up for a bold return to the frontier, announcing that Matt Dillon will star in the upcoming eight-episode drama ‘The Magnificent Seven,’ a sweeping reimagining of the classic 1960 Western film. Dillon will not only star but also serve as an executive producer on the high-profile series.
Dillon takes on the iconic role of Chris Adams, first immortalised on screen by Yul Brynner. In this new incarnation, Chris is a man of few words and unwavering conviction, a natural leader whose quiet moral code is carved from fairness and restraint. Stoic under pressure, intolerant of cruelty and hypocrisy, Chris becomes the steady centre of a volatile storm.
Set against the rugged sprawl of the 1880s American frontier, ‘The Magnificent Seven’ follows seven gifted but flawed mercenaries hired to protect a peaceful Quaker village after it is brutally massacred by gunmen in the employ of a ruthless land baron intent on seizing their land.
As the Seven embed themselves within the grieving community and prepare for an inevitable siege, the series leans into a powerful central question: is violence ever justified when defending those whose faith is rooted in non-violence?

The drama focuses on character exploration, diving into the backstories of each mercenary and what drives them toward this perilous mission. Honour, sacrifice, redemption, morality and faith form the bedrock of the narrative, as bullets fly and consciences burn.
The series is written and executive produced by Tim Kring, best known for creating Heroes, Touch, Dig and Crossing Jordan.
Executive producers also include Donald De Line, whose credits include Billy the Kid and Wayward Pines, alongside Lawrence Mirisch, Bruce Kaufman and Dillon himself. Casting is by Seth Yanklewitz.
The project hails from MGM+, with MGM+ Studios and MGM Television Studios producing. Production is targeted to begin in June 2026 in Calgary.
