Perhaps the only person unhappy to hear that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass will reunite for a fifth Bourne movie is Jeremy Renner. Why? Well, Universal essentially scrapped The Bourne Legacy follow-up which had its release date swiped by this anticipated release.

It’s not exactly hard to understand why they did that of course. The movie received a very tepid response from critics, and franchise fans have been dying to see the return of Jason Bourne since his story wrapped up way back in 2007 with The Bourne Ultimatum.

With shooting set to begin next week, Damon has revealed the first details about the currently untitled release, and he promises that he and Greengrass have been plotting this movie for a very long time indeed. “We always looked at those movies as really about the Bush presidency,” he said, “and so we kind of had to wait for the world to change.”

“Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” Damon added. “It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.” The Bourne movies have frequently explored the world, and this instalment looks set to be no different. “We’re starting in Greece, you know, the beginning of democracy. And the movie ends in Las Vegas, the most grotesque incarnation of…”

He didn’t finish that sentence, but you can imagine where it was going! The cast also includes Julia Stiles, Tommy Lee Jones, and Alicia Vikander, and is set to be released on July 29th, 2016. As always, be sure to stay tuned to HeyUGuys for much more on this one!
