It’s standard these days for actors to sign multi-picture deals (just ask any of those in the Marvel Studios movies) when they join big studio tentpoles like Transformers, and as you might imagine, Mark Wahlberg committed to a trilogy when he signed on to star in this summer’s Transformers: Age of Extinction.

In a recent interview, Wahlberg revealed that he will fulfil his contractual obligations by returning for the fifth instalment in the Transformers franchise.  “Yeah, I committed to doing a couple more,” he confirmed when asked about returning. “I can’t speak for Mr. Bay, but something tells me we’ll be on set soon.”

It’s unclear at the moment whether or not director Michael Bay will return, especially as he was quoted not too long ago as saying that Transformers: Age of Extinction (which grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office this year) would be his last. However, he said the exact same thing about the one before too!

Either way, you have to imagine that Paramount Pictures will be moving ahead with a fifth movie sooner rather than later because they’re guaranteed money makers even if the critical response is never that great.

In Transformers: Age of Extinction, Wahlberg played Cade Yeager. He will next be seen in The Gambler, Ted 2, and Daddy’s Home. Rumour has it that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson might star in the next Transformers movie, and you have to imagine that he and Wahlberg would make a great team based on Bay’s Pain & Gain!
