John Carney, director of the charming low-budget indie musical Once, is attached to direct from his own screenplay.

Can A Song Save Your Life centers on a young female singer (Johansson) whose world takes a turn for the better when a down-on-his luck record producer (Ruffalo) discovers her and the two forge a romance.

Anthony Bregman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Judd Apatow (Bridesmaids) will produce, with Exclusive Media shopping the rights to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin later this month.

Ruffalo will next be seen in Marvel’s The Avengers, while Johansson has a role in next month’s We Bought A Zoo.
