Disney has officially ordered the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ prequel series for Disney+ and will see both Luke Evans and Josh Gad reprise their roles from the film.

The live-action musical series will see Evans and Gad, reprise the roles of Gaston and LeFou (Louie), they are joined by newcomer Briana Middleton who takes on the role of Tilly, Louie’s stepsister.

The series will be set in the kingdom of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ years before the Beast and Belle’s romance, it will follow Gaston and LeFou as they set off with LeFou’s stepsister, Tilly, after a surprising revelation from her past comes to light, sending the trio off on an unexpected journey. While the mysteries of the past are uncovered and the dangers of the present grow, old friends and new enemies reveal that this familiar kingdom harbours many secrets.

The series is said to shed some light on the much-asked questions of how the beast becomes the beast and how such an odd couple like Gaston and LeFou managed to end up as friends in the first place.

The series will consist of 8 episodes and is developed, executive produced and written by Gad, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz with each serving as a co-showrunner. Evans will produce. Liesl Tommy, will executive produce and will direct the first episode. The project will also feature an original soundtrack from the legendary composer Alan Menken, who will also serve as executive producer.

Production on the project is set to commence in spring 2022.
