Do we need another Lethal Weapon? Well, thanks to Mel Gibson and Danny Glover we could be getting the fifth outing in the franchise with the duo, alongside Richard Donner looking to revive the old buddy cop caper.

The information coming through puts Donner in the director’s with a script from Channing Gibson (Lethal Weapon 4) with both Glover and Mel Gibson attached to star in the film from Warner Bros. who brought us all the previous four films in the franchise.

The buddy cop action comedy franchise created by Shane Black that focuses on Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detectives, Martin Riggs, Roger Murtaugh, and their fast-talking sidekick Leo Getz (who debuts in the second film). The franchise consisted of four films released during the 1980s and 1990s, as well as a television series in 2016. All four films in the series were directed by Richard Donner and also share many of the same core cast members, while the television series recast the main roles with younger actors instead.

Back in 2007, both Glover and Gibson had shown no interest in reprising their roles in a fifth outing which was being played with by Warner Bros with Shane Black at the helm. Producer, Joel Silver, confirmed Gibson’s lack of interest in the project.

We talked about it, but it was something that Mel didn’t want to do now,” he explained. “It doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to do it ever, but as of right now, he doesn’t.

However, ten years later it would seem Gibson has had a change of heart in returning after his very public meltdown put a spanner in the works of his career which has now done a complete 360 after his fantastic work on the Andrew Garfield led Hacksaw Ridge.
