The LEGO Movie was a bigger success than anyone expected, and the fact that it wasn’t nominated for an Oscar generated an appropriate amount of outrage earlier this year. Its impressive box office haul means that Warner Bros. are now forging ahead with a sequel and spinoffs, and one of those will revolve around The LEGO Movie’s breakout star Batman.
Live-action movies starring the Caped Crusader always do well, and there’s no reason to think this animated outing won’t either. When it does, you have to believe that the floodgates will open to a new wave of spinoffs, but which characters most deserve them?
Regardless of rights issues, here you will find ten characters and franchises which need to get their own LEGO movies. Whether they’ve failed to make the right kind of impact in live-action or would benefit from being given the block treatment from a tonal and character perspective, these guys are all just as deserving of their own LEGO movie as Batman!
10. Fantastic Four
You don’t need me to tell you that Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot was a disaster. A commercial and critical flop, the movie got pretty much nothing right, and it’s hard to imagine fans or regular moviegoers being willing to go and watch a Fox produced sequel now. So, how can the franchise be saved?
Turning to Marvel Studios would help, but if that’s not an option, then why not let LEGO take a crack at doing these characters justice? It’s easy to imagine them being able to find the right tone and make a movie starring Marvel’s First Family work, and not even the silliest Fantastic Four supporting character would be off limits in this type of animated feature.
They would probably even manage to get Galactus right…
