Seeing as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice kicks off with a Batman who has been serving as Gotham City’s Caped Crusader for over a decade, it’s pretty surprising that this movie will once again feature the moment his mother and father were gunned down.

Its inclusion was confirmed in the Comic-Con trailer, and putting his own unique spin on the iconic moment is clearly something director Zack Snyder couldn’t resist! Now, we already know that Watchmen star Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been cast as Thomas Wayne, but it has today been revealed that The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan (Maggie) will play Martha.

It’s not clear just how significant a role this will be, and it is something of a shame that the talented actress isn’t joining the DC Films Universe in a more permanent role, but this is still a pretty cool bit of casting on Snyder’s part. Here’s hoping it’s more than a cameo anyway!

What’s funny about this is that Morgan and Cohan will soon be reunited in The Walking Dead as he was recently cast as the villainous Negan (he’ll first appear in the season six finale). It remains to be seen whether or not their characters will end up sharing scenes together, though fans of the comics will know that they’re linked together in a very…interesting…way.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to be released worldwide on March 25th!
