A new trailer has arrived for Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi’s extraordinary new feature ‘LA BOLA NEGRA,’ an ambitious and emotionally charged drama exploring love, memory, inheritance and queer identity across three generations.
‘LA BOLA NEGRA’ will arrive in UK and Irish cinemas courtesy of Altitude on 6 November 2026.
Inspired by the unfinished final work of legendary Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, as well as the acclaimed play by Alberto Conejero, one of Spain’s foremost contemporary playwrights, the film promises a visually ravishing journey through history, poetry and passionate romance.
Spanning three different eras, 1932, 1937 and 2017, ‘LA BOLA NEGRA’ follows three men whose lives become intimately connected through desire, pain and inheritance. Their stories unfold across decades, revealing buried histories and the lives and loves that were forced into silence.
Rich with Lorca’s poetry and infused with desire, grief and hope, the film explores the ways in which queer histories can be erased, forgotten and ultimately reclaimed. At its heart is an intimate love story that expands into a sweeping examination of memory, identity and the weight of what previous generations leave behind.
The film brings together a remarkable ensemble cast led by Academy Award winner Penélope Cruz (Volver, Parallel Mothers, Ferrari) and eight-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liaisons, The Wife).
They are joined by Miguel Bernardeau (Élite, 1899, Querer), Lola Dueñas (Volver, The Sea Inside, Me Too), Carlos González (Veneno, Mariliendre, Maricón Perdido) and acclaimed musician Guitarricadelafuente, who makes his feature-film debut.
