The GunstringerThe Kinect finally looks set to get his first proper non-minigame/non-danceathon game.

And thankfully The Gunstringer has the creative geniuses behind one of 2010’s best Xbox Live games steering its development.

Twisted Pixel made their mark with the ingeniusly simple and yet brilliantly balanced ‘Splosion Man, and are back with a Kinect-controlled 2D/ED hybrid shooter.

They’re nothing if not an imaginative crew, and the action will place you in control of an angry marionette who is resurrected after being offed by a gang of goons.

The teaser trailer below pokes fun at its PS3/Wii brethren, emphasising the quality of control available through the Kinect, although brilliantly The Gunslinger’s lead designer Dan Teasdale is more than aware of the Kinect’s reputation since launch.

“The Gunstringer is unlike any Kinect game you may have played previously. There are no minigames, forced gestures, or end of level photos of you in your underwear here,” he says.

“You can play it sitting down, which is great if you just want to play and relax rather than burn crazy calories. Most importantly, you can aim and move with precision not seen in any of the Kinect launch titles, and with a speed and feel that’s just not possible with a traditional controller.”

Apparently the gameplay will be equal parts 3D platformer with “all the fun and mayhem of targeting-focused shooters like Rez.”
