Red State sees Smith return to his place as writer/director and he’s apparently still finishing the script based on the Hall of Bigotry that is Westboro Baptist Church. Before these casting announcements we knew that Michael Parks had been cast as the Rev. Not-Fred Phelps-Honest and that production was scheduled to start on September the 22nd.

Now The Wrap spill the casting beans and name Melissa Leo, Dermot Mulroney, Michael Angarano, Kyle Gallner and Steven Root as actors connected to the film, which will see Smith move into the criminally underused Political Horror genre. Lets hope Rev. Not-Phelps is shot in the first few minutes and spends the rest of the movie in his own personal Hell being trampled by a gay pride march. Forever.

Leo was Oscar nominated for her role in 2008’s Frozen River and Dermot Mulroney will be a familiar face to many, not least for his role in the Julia Roberts film My Best Friend’s Wedding. Smith, however, remains the film’s biggest draw.
