Actor/director Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet) is in early talks to direct an adaptation of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society for Fox 2000.

Adapted by screenwriter Don Ross (Marley & Me), the 2008 novel centers on a thirtysomething author swarmed by letters from inhabitants of her once-German-occupied British island in the aftermath of World War II.

Fox 2000 are hoping to start production on The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society early next year.

Branagh’s last directorial effort, Thor, earned rave reviews upon its release in May and has so far grossed an estimated 8M worldwide.
