After losing out to Andrew Garfield for the role of Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, and having his audition tape unceremoniously leaked onto the internet, it is nice to see Josh Hutcherson back on his feet.

The Journey to the Centre of the Earth actor is set to co-star with Dane Cook (Mystery Men) in an upcoming horror comedy titled Detention. Centring on “teens who must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life”, the film might not win points for originality.

After this years surprisingly entertaining Jennifer’s Body, however, it is difficult to argue that there is not some life left in this tiring premise.

Helmed by yet another music video director in the form of Joseph Kahn, I live in hope of a contemporary horror movie that hasn’t been edited to within an inch of its life. Kahn was looking to get involved with the big screen adaptation of Nueromancer, which ended up in the hands of Splice director Vincenzo Natali. According to The Playlist, filming starts next month before Hutcherson goes off on another Journey.

Hutcherson’s latest, The Kids Are All Right, is in US cinemas now.
