‘The Two Popes’ actor Jonathan Pryce is next in line to take on the royal role of Prince Philip in the final 2 seasons of ‘The Crown’.

Pryce takes over the role from the current incumbent Tobia Menzies, Matt Smith played the role in the first two seasons.

Imelda Staunton has already been confirmed to take over the role as Queen Elizabeth II from Olivia Colman in the fifth and final series whilst Lesley Manville will take over the role of Princess Margaret from Helena Bonham Carter.v

Set in the 1990s and 2000s, seasons 5 and 6 will deal with the breakdown of three of her children’s marriages, a fire at Windsor Castle, and the deaths of Princess Margaret, the Queen Mother and the Princess of Wales.

Filming is due to commence mid-2021, with the fifth season set for a premiere in 2022.
