It’s not the first time in movie history the story of Doc Holliday, the infamous dentist turned wild west gunslinger, has been told. There are at least fifteen films that have made the rounds since 1939 that focus on the story of Holliday who made his mark in history when he stood alongside Wyatt Earp in the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral in 1881.

The most famous of those movies being the 1957 version, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral which saw Kirk Douglas play Holliday. Holliday was also subsequently played by Dennis Quaid in 1994 version, Wyatt Earp and then again by Val Kilmer in 1993’s Tombstone. All this is without even listing the numerous series and episodes of random TV shows Holliday has made an appearance.

Jeremy Renner Doc Holliday

Renner will not only star in the forthcoming biopic but acts as a producer alongside Don Handfield and Kevin Frakes. Renner and Handfield said in a joint statement;

“We are excited to re-introduce this classic American character to a whole new audience by chronicling Doc Holliday’s incredible transformation from Average Joe dentist to a man who Wyatt Earp called the ‘nerviest, speediest, deadliest man with a six-gun [he] ever knew”,

The new biopic will be heavily based on both books from Mary Doria Russell, but the question arises will they incorporate both into just one movie or are we all set to see Palmstar and Renner indulge in a sequel to bring this nineteenth century hero to life yet again for audiences that are looking for a history lesson.
