Ever since IT hit theaters and exceeded expectations both critically and commercially, moviegoers have been wondering who could take on the role of the adult versions of the kids we saw battle Pennywise the Clown in that first instalment of the horror franchise.

Jessica Chastain has already signed on to star as Beverly and now New Line is zeroing in a couple of A-List actors to play fan-favourite characters Stuttering Bill and Richie Tozier.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix star James McAvoy is eyeing up the role of Bill (he was played by Jaeden Lieberher in the first movie), while Brooklyn-Nine-Nine’s Bill Hader will take over from Finn Wolfhard as Richie. Talks are said to be in the very early stages of development.

The script is still being worked on so there’s nothing to say they’ll star but this would be a really great casting coup for the studio. We’ll just have to hope it ends up panning out!

Director Andy Muschietti is returning to direct while Gary Dauberman is hard at work on the screenplay. Production is expected to begin over the summer and a release date of September 6th, 2019 has been set. The story will follow the characters from the first movie returning to Derry as adults to confront Pennywise and the young cast is expected to return for at least one flashback. It’s currently not clear whether or not that will happen, though.
