Currently winning plaudits for his turn as ill-fated outdoor pursuits enthusiast Aron Ralston in 127 hours, James Franco moves on to yet another series of challenges.

Showbiz 411 are reporting that not only is the actor in talks to direct his own adaptation of the William Faulkner classic As I Lay Dying, but he’s also in the middle of thrashing out a deal with famed producer Scott Rudin to write and direct a film version of the Cormac McCarthy novel Blood Meridian.

Franco is no stranger to work behind the camera. He’s shot a number of well-received shorts throughout the last five years or so, although admittedly, he’s certainly has his work cut out here. He plans to shoot his first feature in the spring sometime and, all going to plan, the McCarthy adaptation in 2012. Aside from these projects, he has two high-profile roles in Rise of the Apes and Your Highness due out later in the year, as well as co-hosting this year’s Academy Awards!

Not sure how James Franco manages to fit everything into his hectic schedule, although his admittance to being somewhat of an insomniac may help with this.
