Continuing the increasingly brilliant additions to the cast of Iron Man 3, recently bolstered by Sir Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, and Rebecca Hall in the female lead, word now comes that James Badge Dale has joined the cast ahead of production getting underway this month.

Shane Black is reuniting with Robert Downey, Jr. after the genius Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, with Black co-writing the script with Drew Pearce (who’s also penning Sherlock Holmes 3 for RDJ).

(Advanced spoiler alert: details of Dale’s character will be appearing in a few paragraphs’ time.)

Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul Bettany, and Don Cheadle will all be reprising their roles too, and the addition of Dale is making things all the more awesome.

Starring opposite Kiefer Sutherland in 24 and in HBO’s The Pacific, Dale has begun making waves in features, seen opposite Michael Fassbender in Steve McQueen’s Shame a few months back, alongside Liam Neeson in The Grey, and has Robert Zemeckis’ Flight, World War Z with Brad Pitt, and Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer coming next year, so he’s definitely one who’ll be rising in the years to come.

“Dale will play Eric Savin. In the Marvel comicbooks, he’s a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army put in charge of Project: Ultra. After he steps on a land mine, cybernetic surgery is performed on him, and Savin’s resurrected as the cyborg Coldblood.”

Iron Man 3 has already been set for the big first weekend of May next year – the same spot The Avengers took in the US earlier this month – set for 3rd May, 2013 in both the UK and US. Production is getting underway next week in North Carolina, followed by a move to China in the summer. It’s pretty much a given that this is going to be immense. More as we get it.
