While Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows might be the last novel set in that magical world, author J.K. Rowling has kept us going with a number of short stories in recent years released via the Pottermore site.

The latest was released to coincide with Halloween, and focused on the villainous Dolores Umbridge.

In some very exciting news however, it has been announced that Rowling is planning on celebrating the 12 Days of Christmas with 12 new short stories set in the world of Harry Potter. The first will be released on December 12th at 1pm UK time, with another following each day right up until Christmas Eve.

There aren’t a lot of details about the stories available, but they will apparently involve “wonderful writing by J.K. Rowling in Moments from Half-Blood Prince, shiny gold Galleons and even a new potion or two.”

It has also been confirmed by the author that at least one of the stories will focus on Draco Malfoy.

These twelve new stories may just be the most significant addition to Harry Potter canon since the final book was released back in 2007, and you can’t help but wonder whether this could lead to a full-length novel somewhere down the line. Rowling is busy writing the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movies for Warner Bros., so it could be some time before we get another Harry Potter adventure, if at all!

Still, learning more about certain characters in these stories promises to be a lot of fun, and should keep fans anxious for another book ticking over for the time being. Who do you hope they put the spotlight on?
