Writer-director Rodrigo Cortés put himself on the map last year with Buried, trapping Ryan Reynolds in a box for ninety minutes and managing to keep it utterly engrossing from start to finish, and making almost m. at the box office from less than a m. budget.

His new film, Red Lights, has a sense of mystery and intrigue surrounding it that has been heightened by its first teaser trailer and poster, courtesy of Latino Review.

“’Red Lights’ stars Sigourney Weaver as a psychologist investigating paranormal activity and the possibility that a famous psychic (Robert De Niro) is in fact a fraud.”

That basic premise doesn’t give us much to go on, and neither the poster nor the teaser trailer do much to help in that respect, but they do both add to the intriguing nature of the project, which goes to show that you really can do a lot with a little, something Cortés has proven himself more than capable of with Buried.

Buried was a brilliant film, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the director’s follow-up, only his second English language film. Red Lights also stars Cillian Murphy (Inception) and the rising star Elizabeth Olsen (the upcoming Martha Marcy May Marlene), and will hopefully be coming out sometime next year. Without further ado, here’s the teaser trailer, followed by the poster.
