On Saturday night it was time to dust off the fedora, crack the whip, fire up the camel and head to the Royal Albert Hall for the latest in their series of live orchestra movie performances at the world famous venue.

Indiana Jones Live - Royal ALbert Hall (9)Raiders of the Lost Ark was the film in question – the first and arguably the best Indiana Jones movie there is, was or will be (we say just as the fifth movie has been announced). The show was in place to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Steven Spielberg directed, George Lucas produced film which used Hans Solo himself, Harrison Ford in the leading and now iconic role.

Led by conductor Ludwig Wicki, the 21st Century Orchestra performed the famous John Williams score while the movie played on a giant screen. This also marked the first time ever that a Williams score was played in full on the Royal Albert Hall stage (it wont be long before another follows since they have Jurassic Park and E.T. is coming later in the year).

Indiana Jones Live - Royal ALbert Hall (10)We’ve been to quite a few of these events now and they never cease to blow us away. When you’ve seen a movie like Raiders so many times, the score becomes engrained in your being, and it takes a different medium like a live orchestra to extract a piece of the film that you know so well to make you truly appreciate it once again. The score is perfect, John Williams nails it every time and the talent of the 21st Century Orchestra really brought it to life in a way we’ve never experienced. The five minute standing ovation shows how much the audience appreciated the performance just as we did and we can’t wait for the next (it’s Gladiator in case you were wondering!).

If you’re a fan of movie scores, this is a MUST event to attend. Indy has been and gone but fear not as the Royal Albert Hall have movie performances coming out of their ears in 2016.

Check their website and get booked up. You wont regret it!
