We’re about to see what twenty years of CG advancements have made to cinematic city-wide destruction as Independence Day Resurgence hoves into view this summer.
Some new posters have been released which show off familiar landmarks around the world being crushed and cajoled into rubble, which is very on point for the original film’s legacy. Jeff Goldblum, in one of the trailers for the films, quips that ‘they always go for the landmarks’, so it’s a post-modern take on the follies and responsibilities of the computer aided citicide. Let’s hope eh?
We always knew they were coming back. After ‘Independence Day’ redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
Independence Day – 20th Anniversary Edition comes to Blu-ray™ and DVD on 30th May.
