Ang Lee’s Life of Pi has entered the awards season as a strong contender in earnest since the summer, with the impeccable first trailer landing back in July.

With its release in the US less than two months away, a brand new international trailer has been released online, featuring the brilliant Coldplay’s Paradise as a rousing second half, giving us even more impressive footage to be in awe of as we await its arrival on the big screen.

The film will be making its debut at the NYFF this coming Friday, and naturally the expectations and anticipation are high.

“Director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) creates a groundbreaking movie event about a young man who survives a tragic disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While marooned on a lifeboat, he forms an amazing and unexpected connection with the ship’s only other survivor — a fearsome Bengal tiger.”

Newcomer Suraj Sharma takes the lead, starring alongside Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Rafe Spall (who replaced the previously-expected Tobey Maguire), and Gérard Depardieu.

Lee is directing from a script by Oscar-nominated David Magee (Finding Neverland), who adapts the critically acclaimed novel by Yann Martel – about as equally previously-thought unadaptable as David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas, another big entry in the awards season this year.

Life of Pi will be released in 3D in the US on 21st November, and will come to the UK a month later for a 21st December release. Lee, who has an Oscar to his name and a further two nominations, is no stranger to the awards season, and we can’t wait to see how this plays in the coming months. For now, here’s the brilliant new international trailer. Enjoy.
