While it’s believed that 2017’s Wolverine movie (which is set to be directed by James Mangold and will feature Hugh Jackman’s final appearance as the fan-favourite mutant) might be a loose adaptation of Old Man Logan, very little is actually known about it.
One thing which was confirmed some time ago however is the fact that it will feature Patrick Stewart in a prominent role, leading many to believe that it’s essentially going to be X-Men 4 as we get to go back to the new timeline created as a result of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Asked for an update on where Wolverine 3 stands, Jackman recently revealed: “I’ll be really honest with you, the actual script in its full form we’re up to about Page 60. Obviously there’s a treatment, so it’s not fully done yet, we’re not fully there. Patrick does figure in it that’s for sure. I think it’s a really important relationship but I want to see signs of that quasi-father/son sort of relationship that has not been seen before, and sides of particularly Professor X that have not been seen before. So we have some really, really cool ideas.”
The actor went on to reveal that he hasn’t yet signed up for the movie as he’s waiting to see a finished script before committing to the project (understandable when you take into account how X-Men Origins: Wolverine turned out), but Jackman sounds very positive about it coming together exactly as he hoped as he prepares to hang up his claws for good.
