Helen Mirren has joined the cast of the upcoming Warner Bros DC sequel ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’.

Mirren is set to show her dark side as she takes on the role of the villain Hespera, daughter of Atlas. She will be teaming up with ‘West Side Story’ star Rachel Zegler who is set to play her sister.

Zachary Levi will be reprising his role as the adult version of teenager Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who transforms into a superhero. Additional casting includes Adam Brody as well as Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer and Faithe Herman.

The follow-up is part of the DC Comics extended universe and is a sequel to 2019’s Shazam! and will continue the story of teenage Billy Batson who, when he says the magic word ‘shazam’ is struck by the Living Lightning of the gods and turns into his adult superhero alter ego.

The superhero is bestowed with the powers of six gods, the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury.

David F. Sandberg returns to direct the project from a script by Henry Gayden. Peter Safran will be producing.

‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ is slated for release on June 2, 2023.
