The Fast and the Furious franchise took the box office by storm last year with a re-energised fifth film, Fast Five, taking well over half a billion dollars from its 5m. budget.

With the franchise brought back to its original life with the return of Vin Diesel in Fast & Furious, things have been looking awesome ever since, and we can look forward to not one, but two further sequels in the years to come.

THR report that Gina Carano, well received for an explosive performance in Haywire, has now joined what is sure to be another immense film, due out in just over a year. Though details about her character aren’t yet known, it’s a safe bet that she’s going to be heavily involved with the action.

Justin Lin is back behind the camera once more, working again from a Chris Morgan script, the pair having made the third, fourth, and fifth films already. And whilst much of the cast currently remains speculation – smart money says Michelle Rodriguez is going to be back and better than ever in Fast Six – Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Dwayne Johnson are all expected to return.

After the awesomeness that was both Fast & Furious and Fast Five, I have nothing but high hopes for Fast Six. Plot details are naturally being kept under wraps for the time being, but pre-production is now underway, and what’s more, we can look forward to a London setting for the sixth film. That, in itself, should definitely make things interesting; we have extradition treaties with the US, for one.

Fast Six is set to burst onto the big screen in just over a year, currently scheduled for a 24th May, 2013 release. I can’t wait.
