As of right now, the chances of you scoring a ticket to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on London’s West End are around the same level as an owl arriving at your house with a letter inviting you to attend Hogwarts! However, while there may be a huge wait for those tickets, chances are that you’ll end up seeing the play on the big screen sooner rather than later.

It’s been revealed today that Warner Bros. has applied for a class 9 trademark in the UK for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and that number refers to “motion picture films.”

This obviously isn’t confirmation that a big screen version of the story is on the way, and chances are that Warner Bros. are just safeguarding the name in case they do one day decide to move forward with one. However, this clearly means they’ve given it some consideration, and you can hardly blame them for wanting to resurrect the franchise!

Should this continuation of the Harry Potter series become a movie, chances are that it won’t be until the Fantastic Beasts trilogy wraps up after 2020, but there’s no denying that this news is pretty exciting. An official update in the near future may seem a tad too optimistic, but with Comic-Con right around the corner, who knows what surprises the studio is planning.
