We’re still a few months away from the release of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, but the majority of fans already believe that it will be Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn who ends up stealing the show. The studio more than likely feels the same way too as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that they’re currently contemplating a Harley Quinn led spinoff movie.

However, this won’t be a solo outing for The Joker’s former sidekick; instead, the plan is for it to focus on several female heroes and villains from the DC Comics. In fact, the trade mentions that names like Batgirl and the Birds of Prey have already been thrown around, so there’s any number of directions this project could ultimately go in. It sounds great though!

A currently unnamed female writer is currently penning a screenplay, and the trade goes on to reveal that, “Sources say that Robbie was the impetus for the project, adding that when she got the part for the movie, she dove deep into the comics to learn as much as possible on the character. In the process, she fell for DC’s female characters. She brought on the writer to help develop the project and brought it Warners, which snapped it up.”

It could be some time before we hear anything concrete on this one and Warner Bros. will no doubt want to see how audiences respond to Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad before giving this a green light. Regardless, the potential for something special is definitely here…
