‘The Shape of Water’s’ Guillermo del Toro has jumped on board J.J. Abrams Bad Robot production of ‘Zanbato’.

The award-winning director will write and direct the project which centres on a young girl with lethal fighting skills. Exact plot details are yet to be revealed.

del Toro took to Twitter to confirm the story but was quick to shoot down Collider’s claim it was a ‘Ninja’ movie.

“This has been in development for the last 6 years or so! Thanks to JJ maximum security system, it had not leaked. We are still developing steadily. Stay tuned here for news on which project SHOOTS next. Pinocchio btw is already in active pre-pro in Portland, OR”

The filmmaker also mentioned in the tweet that his made for Netflix ‘Pinocchio’ project is currently in pre-production. del Toro’s first foray into directing an animated feature is set in Italy during the 1930s when fascism was on the rise. The film is will be a stop-motion musical version of the classic children’s story.

del Toro also has his fingers in many pies, he will be producing Scott Cooper‘s ‘Antlers’ at Fox Searchlight, and ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’.
