Work is forging ahead on The Walking Dead’s upcoming spinoff/companion series which is currently going by the code name, “Cobalt”. The series – which is expected to start shooting next year – already has three cast members in Cliff Curtis (Sunshine), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter) and Alycia Debnam (Into the Storm).

The latest impressive addition is Deadwood and Gone Girl star Kim Dickens. The actress will star opposite Curtis as the show’s female lead. The Walking Dead spinoff focuses on newly created characters; a divorced teacher (Curtis) and a guidance counsellor (Dickens) who are working together and are in a relationship. The counsellor has two children from a previous marriage, and they will be played by Dillan and Debnam.

The Walking Dead’s creator Robert Kirkman came up with the series alongside Dave Erickson, and Adam Davidson will helm the pilot. Dickens apparently landed he role after a lengthy casting search.

It was recently revealed that events in The Walking Dead companion series will take place in Los Angeles.

This is obviously very different to the main show’s Atlanta setting, and should give us a look at a new side of the zombie apocalypse. Are we going to see undead celebrities? Zombies trudging along the beach and hanging from the “Hollywood” sign? It certainly seems like a possibility, but we’ll have to wait and see!
