The Glasgow Film Festival 2020 is shaping up nicely with the announcement of its opening and closing films.

Proxima kicks things off for the festival on February 26th in what will be its UK premiere from Alice Winocour, who writes and directs. The hotly anticipated drama starring Eva Greene is already making waves after notable recognition at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. You can read our glowing review from TIFF here.

“I am incredibly excited that Proxima will have its UK premiere at this year’s Glasgow Film Festival. It is a privilege to be the opening film for the Festival especially as it will be the first time in the festival’s history that the opening and closing films are directed by women.” said Winocour

Closing this years festival is the adaptation of Caitlin Moran’s coming of age semi-autobiographical novel, How to Build A Girl. At the helm is Coky Giedroyc who directs a star studded cast which includes Beanie Feldstein, Emma Thompson as well as Paddy Considine.

Allison Gardner, Co-Director Glasgow Film Festival, said:

“This year we close the festival on International Women’s Day and we are delighted to host the UK Premiere of How To Build A Girl. The film is a hilarious and moving tale of Wolverhampton teenager, Johanna, brilliantly played by Beanie Feldstein, making her way in the world”
