Selena Gomez continues to take her career in new directions with Getaway, the action/thriller that sees her return to the big screen after a great performance in Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers.
Ethan Hawke is in the driving seat opposite, and with the film’s Labor Day release date on the horizon, Warner Bros. have released an explosive first trailer via Apple.
Getaway is the gritty, heart-pounding action thriller from Warner Bros. Pictures and Dark Castle Entertainment in which former race car driver Brent Magna (Ethan Hawke) is pitted against the clock. Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Shelby Cobra Mustang, taking it and its unwitting owner (Selena Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.
Hawke and Gomez star alongside Jon Voight, Bruce Payne, and Rebecca Budig.
Courtney Solomon (An American Haunting) is behind the camera, directing from a script co-written by Sean Finegan and Gregg Maxwell Parker, both of whom make their debuts as writers here.
Solomon has spent the majority of his career producing and directing horror films, and it will be interesting to see him take the helm on a new genre, focusing this time around on the action/thriller.
Getaway is set to be released in the US on August 30th, and will be following just over a month later on 4th October here in the UK. For now, here’s the first trailer to set the tone.
