Gary Oldman

It seems fair to say that we’re all sick and tired of Star Wars Episode VII casting rumours, even after seeing some far more believable news released via the trades not too long ago. However, in a surprising turn of events, one actor has now come out and confirmed that they’ve been approached for a role: RoboCop and The Dark Knight Trilogy’s Gary Oldman!

In an interview with Sky Movies, they asked the actor whether or not he would like to add Star Wars to his impressive franchise résumé (which also includes the Harry Potter movies and the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), and he replied with the following:

“They’ve called. You know, I’m more cynical about it now. I’ll believe it when I’m on the plane home. The deal isn’t done, but yeah, they’ve inquired. I mean Planet of the Apes, Harry Potter, Batman, and Star Wars… bloody hell!”

Jesse Plemons, Michael Fassbender, Adam Driver, and Hugo Weaving are all names which have been linked to the J.J. Abrams-helmed movie as of late, but adding Gary Oldman to the cast would be an incredibly smart move on the part of the Star Trek Into Darkness director.

There are of course a few other actors who have recently revealed that they’ve at least talked about roles in Star Wars Episode VII (Zac Efron and Saoirse Ronan, for example), but Oldman seems a little more confident than they were that this could lead to something.
