Irish actor Aidan Gillen is about to embark on another villainous role as it has been revealed that he will play the lead bad guy in the recently announced sequel to The Maze Runner that’s set for release next year.

He is of course perhaps best known for playing the dastardly Littlefinger in Game of Thrones, though Gillen also starred in The Wire and has appeared in a number of other movies including The Dark Knight Rises.

After earning over $81.5 million worldwide following its opening in North America and a select number of international locations, 20th Century Fox would announce the sequel – Scorch Trials – last weekend for a 2015 release. The Maze Runner has yet to open in a number of countries, but the fact that the studio have already confirmed that a follow-up is on the way is clearly because they believe they have the next teen hit!

Wes Ball is expected to return to direct the second instalment in the popular YA trilogy of novels.

Maze Runner: Scorch Trials picks up after the events of the first movie and Gillen will play Janson, the man who becomes the main antagonist of the Maze Runner books. He is also frequently referred to as Rat-Man.

Shooting is expected to begin on the sequel at the end of October. Thoughts on this casting update?
