For all you Game of Thrones fans out there, you can now breath as an air date for the final season of the long-running series has been announced as the 15th of April in the UK and the 14th in the US.

The first episode will air at 9pm on the 14th in the US, with a live simulcast at 2am in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV. The trailer will also air at 9pm tonight on Sky Atlantic before True Detective Season 3 starts.

The announcement was made via a new ominous Season 8 Crypt teaser. The teaser doesn’t bode well for Jon Snow and Sansa and Arya Stark as they make their way through the Winterfell crypt, past statues of the Stark dynasty haunt the long dark corridors. Culminating in the three coming together to unearth statues of themselves before the crypt starts to fill with icy fog.

Adapted from George RR Martin’s novels, Game of Thrones has become a much-loved series over the years. So even though the fate of these beloved characters looks likely to come to a bloody end the Game of Thrones world will live on in a prequel series.

The prequel, titled ‘The Long Night’ has been gaining traction of late with cast members being added left, right, and centre with Jamie Campbell Bower and Denise Gough amongst others joining Noami Watts and Josh Whitehouse. SJ Clarkson has also come on board to take the helm of the series which has been written by Jane Goldman.
