Well, I think it’s fair to say that we all saw this coming! HBO has confirmed today that Game of Thrones will return for a seventh season in 2017, though the cable network has yet to comment on those recent reports that the episode count will be shorter moving forward.

Game of Thrones begins its ten-episode sixth season Sunday, April 24th. Based on the bestselling fantasy books by George R.R. Martin, the fantasy series chronicles an epic struggle for power in a vast and violent kingdom, and everyone is obviously wondering what’s next for the citizens of Westeros this year as the show has now passed the novels.

The biggest mystery remains the fate of Jon Snow, and while he’s absent from the gallery below, we do at least get to see some very intriguing and revealing shots of where the premiere is going to pick up with characters like Daenerys Targaryen and Sansa Stark.

We also now know that this episode will be titled “The Red Woman,” and it’s described as follows: “Jon Snow is dead. Daenerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter again.”
