Foxcatcher

Bennett Miller has form when it comes to awards season flicks based on real-life stories. The director follows up Capote and Moneyball with what promises to be another compelling tale. Get ready to see Steve Carell as you’ve never seen him before. Ditching his funny man schtick, the Anchorman star dons a prosthetic nose – reminiscent of Nicole Kidman in The Hours – to play bonkers billionaire John Du Pont.

Ahead of the Seoul games of 1988 Du Pont bankrolled the training of Olympic gold-winning wrestler brothers Dave and and Mark Schultz (Mark Ruffalo and Channing Tatum) but events took a sinister turn…

Check out this chilling teaser for a taste of the drama making waves on the Croisette. Our Cannes reviewer Jo-Ann Titmarsh gave Foxcatcher five stars; praising the three leads and a story that “shows us the corruptive and devastating power of money” in a film that’s sure to be in line when the gongs are handed out next year.

Foxcatcher is released in the US November 14th so expect a UK bow soon after.
