For a number of months, we’ve known the character of Ivan Drago will be returning to the Rocky fold in the sequel to the 2015 smash Creed thanks to Stallone and his love for Instagram. Today marks the news that Romanian Boxer, Florian Munteanu, has been cast in the role as Drago Jr in the forthcoming follow-up.

Back in December 2017, it was announced that first-time feature film director, Steven Caple Jr has taken over the helm of the project which is due to start filming in March in Philadelphia.

Creed 2 will focus again on Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) both inside and outside of the ring as he deals with his newfound fame, issues with his family, and his continuing quest to become a champion.

Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren are set to return to their roles as Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago, who famously clashed in Rocky IV after Drago killed Adonis’ father, Apollo (Carl Weathers) in the ring with one too many thunder like blows to the head. With the announcement of Munteanu we can expect Jordan’s Creed to go head to head with Drago’s son in revenge for his Father’s death.  Tessa Thompson will also return as Adonis’ girlfriend, Bianca.

Caple will direct from an original screenplay written by Stallone and Cheo Hodari Coker, who was a showrunner on Luke Cage. The film is being produced by Irwin Winkler, Charles Winkler, William Chartoff, David Winkler, and Kevin King-Templeton. Jordan and Guy Riedel will executive produce.

The film is slated for a November 21st 2018 release.
