Academy Award nominee Florence Pugh is officially set to star in and produce ‘The Midnight Library,’ the long-gestating feature adaptation of Matt Haig’s internationally bestselling novel.
The film is being developed by Studiocanal and Blueprint Pictures, which first optioned the novel back in 2020. Acclaimed filmmaker Garth Davis, known for ‘Lion,’ has been tapped to direct the project.
The screenplay will be penned by Olivier Award winner Laura Wade (Rivals, The Riot Club) alongside Olivier and Tony Award nominee Nick Payne (We Live in Time, The Sense of an Ending).

Based on Haig’s beloved novel, ‘The Midnight Library’ follows Nora Seed, a woman who finds herself in a mysterious library between life and death, where she is allowed to explore alternate versions of her life and the paths she could have taken. The emotionally charged story explores themes of depression, regret, suicide, and mental health through a deeply allegorical lens.
Production is expected to move quickly, with pre-production scheduled to begin this autumn ahead of principal photography starting in early 2027.
The feature will be produced by Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin for Blueprint Pictures alongside Anita Overland and Pugh. Executive producers include Blueprint’s Ben Knight and Diarmuid McKeown, while Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern and Dan MacRae executive produce for Studiocanal. Haig also serves as an executive producer on the adaptation.
