Rob Reiner has perfected the nostalgia infused ensemble comedy, bringing together some smart writing and great actors under his hand to create some of most memorable films of the past few decades.

There are certain shots in this trailer, from his new film Flipped, which effortlessly convey the tug of heart strings and the intangible emotions of being too young to be in love. It’s all quite sweet and it’s great to see Reiner heading back to the big screen, as he adapts the young adult novel by Wendelin Van Draanen.

Madeline Carroll (no, not the Madeline Carroll who appeared in Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps) stars as Juli and is surrounded by an impressive cast including stars Aidan Quinn, Anthony Edwards, John Mahoney, Penelope Ann Miller and Rebecca De Mornay.

It’s charming and doesn’t seek to drown you in sugar, and is the perfect thing for a Friday afternoon.

The good people at MovieFone did the right thing and hoisted this one aboard the good ship Internet.

Here’s a synopsis for the film, which includes the word ‘Girl-phobic’.

Synopsis: Two second-graders start to have feelings for each other despite being total opposites.

When second-graders Bryce and Juli first meet, Juli knows it’s love. But Bryce isn’t so sure. Girl-phobic and easily embarrassed, young Bryce does everything he can to keep his outspoken wannabe girlfriend at arm’s length… for the next six years, which isn’t easy since they go to the same school and live across the street from each other. But if Juli finally looks away, will it be Bryce’s turn to be dazzled? “Flipped” takes Bryce and Juli from grade school to junior high, through triumph and disaster, family drama and first love, as they make the discoveries that will define who they are – and who they are to each other.
