Amour PosterMichael Haneke, the BAFTA-nominated writer-director behind The White Ribbon, Caché, and Funny Games, returns to bring us Amour, one of the most talked-about films of the year.

Making its debut at Cannes, where it came away with the coveted Palme d’Or, the film has been continuing the film circuit in recent months – you can read our five-star review here – and with its US release primed for the Oscars, Apple have now debuted the first US trailer.

“Georges and Anne are in their eighties. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. their daughter, who is also a musician, lives abroad with her family. One day, Anne has an attack. The couple’s bond of love is severely tested.”

Haneke is directing from his own script, with Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva starring in the leads, alongside Isabelle Huppert.

The film has already been submitted as Austria’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars in the New Year, and its US release at the end of next month could well see it emerge as a contender for a handful of other categories.

Amour will be released here in the UK next Friday, 16th November, before opening in a limited NY/LA release on 19th December in the US, continuing to open wide in successive weeks. For now, here’s the US trailer to give you an idea of why this has had everyone talking. Enjoy.
