Cell first started casting back in 2012 and has since been passed from studio to studio, but we now finally have the first trailer for the big screen adaptation of the book which essentially features Stephen King’s take on zombies. Unfortunately, despite the decent cast, this looks very much like direct to DVD fare or something you’d see on Syfy one evening!

The low budget unfortunately means that this movie probably won’t do the novel justice, but who knows, great movies get bad trailers all the time, so Cell could definitely surprise us.

In this highly anticipated adaptation of Stephen King’s bestselling apocalyptic thriller, John Cusack (1408), Samuel L. Jackson (Django Unchained) and Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan) star as one of the few survivors of a murderous epidemic fending off bloodthirsty predators who have been dangerously re-programmed to kill by a mysterious worldwide phone signal.

Also starring Stacy Keach (American History X) and Lloyd Kaufman (Tromeo and Juliet), produced by Richard Saperstein (Seven, 1408) and Michael Benaroya (Margin Call, Lawless) and directed by Tod ‘Kip’ Williams (Paranormal Activity 2, The Door in the Floor), Cell is a frightening new story from The Master of Horror and will be released on August 26th.

However, in a sign which never usually points to great quality, Cell is being released on demand on the same day, so it may not be worth getting too excited about this adaptation.
