House of Cards PosterDavid Fincher and Kevin Spacey’s highly anticipated new series, House of Cards, is set to debut on Netflix early next year, and with the promise of all thirteen episodes premiering on the same day – 1st February – there’s a lot to look forward to.

Based on the 1990 British series of the same name, the first trailer for the programme has been released online, and it gives an incredibly promising look, enough to suggest that it’s going to be by far one of the best series of next year, and quite possibly a prominent contender come Emmy season.

“Ruthless and cunning, Congressman Francis Underwood (Oscar® winner Kevin Spacey) and his wife Claire (Robin Wright) stop at nothing to conquer everything. This wicked political drama penetrates the shadowy world of greed, sex, and corruption in modern D.C. Kate Mara (“American Horror Story”) and Corey Stoll (“Midnight in Paris”) costar in the first original series from David Fincher (“The Social Network”) and Beau Willimon (“The Ides of March”).”

Starring alongside Spacey in the lead will be an excellent cast, headed up by Robin Wright, Kate Mara, Corey Stoll, Michael Kelly, Sakina Jaffrey, Kristen Connolly, and Constance Zimmer.

Fincher and Spacey have been developing the programme since the spring of last year, alongside acclaimed playwright, Beau Willimon, whose play, Farragut North, was adapted into The Ides of March last year, earning Willimon, George Clooney, and Grant Heslov an Oscar nomination for their script.

Netflix have already committed themselves to two full seasons, of thirteen episodes each, which means that we’ve got a lot more to look forward to further down the line.

House of Cards will be debuting on Netflix on 1st February, 2013, with all thirteen episodes premiering on the same day. Make sure you empty your calendars, because this is going to be one hell of a ride. For now, here’s the first trailer to give you an idea of the brilliance we can expect.
