Chris Evans has been something of a rising star of late, and if you didn’t know his name a few months ago, you almost certainly will by now after taking the lead in the recent Marvel blockbuster, Captain America: The First Avenger.

His new film, Puncture, is set to be released in September in the States, and we’ve now got the first trailer and poster for the film, via Millenium Entertainment and ComingSoon.net respectively.

So used to seeing him in action films like Captain America and Fantastic Four, it might be pretty easy to forget that Evans is also a great dramatic actor, and this new trailer shows off that he’s got talents far beyond being able to stand tall and look good.

“Mike Weiss (Chris Evans) is a talented young Houston lawyer and a functioning drug addict. Paul Danziger (co-director Mark Kassen), his longtime friend and partner, is the straight-laced and responsible yin to Mike’s yang. Their mom-and-pop personal injury law firm is getting by, but things really get interesting when they decide to take on a case involving Vicky (Vinessa Shaw), a local ER nurse, who is pricked by a contaminated needle on the job. As Weiss and Danziger dig deeper into the case, a health care and pharmaceutical conspiracy teeters on exposure and heavyweight attorneys move in on the defense. Out of their league but invested in their own principles, the mounting pressure of the case pushes the two underdog lawyers and their business to the breaking point.”

The opening scene in what looks to be a pretty run-down motel room is an entertaining introduction to the trailer, with Evans creating a mock courtroom with fellow addicts playing the parts of jurors and witnesses, labelled as such with a post-it note. We then get a bit of Ocean’s Eleven-esque music to go with the comedic tones, before settling in to the more serious and darker nature of the film.

A role like this is interesting to see from Evans, who could have quite easily continued his career as it’s been going taking mostly action-heavy roles, because he does perform well in them. But it’s nice to see him trying to challenge himself and branch out to do different things too. He’s recently been attached to an almost silent film, Motor City, that’s said to be a film with but a single line of dialogue, and whilst that is an action film, it’s clearly going to be something different to what we’re used to seeing too, just like Puncture.

There’s no word yet on a UK release date, and given that it’s an independent film, we may well have to wait for its DVD/Blu-Ray release to see Evans in this role. Judging from the trailer, though, it will certainly be an interesting film to watch. Without further ado, here’s the trailer, followed by the poster. As usual, click to make it go big.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
