The issues with bringing Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic to the big screen have been well-publicised, with a number of actors dropping out at the last minute and some “Sony Hack” emails making the behind the scenes problems clear. However, shooting is finally underway, and the title and synopsis have been revealed.

First of all though, the official title of the highly anticipated biopic is simply Steve Jobs. The brief synopsis meanwhile reveals that events in the movie will indeed be “set backstage at three iconic product launches” with the end point set to be “in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac”. It also reveals that “the film takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter.”

Universal (Sony were originally set to release the movie until budgetary concerns led to them passing on the project) have released the following cast list with details on who’s in the movie AND who they’re playing!

  • Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs
  • Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, former Macintosh marketing chief
  • Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, Apple co-founder
  • Jeff Daniels as John Sculley, former Apple CEO
  • Katherine Waterston as Chrisann Brenna, Jobs’ ex-girlfriend and mother of his child
  • Michael Stuhlbarg as Andy Hertzfeld, an original Apple Macintosh development team member
  • Perla Haney-Jardine, Ripley Sobo, and Mackenzie Moss as Jobs’ daughter Lisa Brennan at various stages of her life
  • Sarah Snook as Andrea Cunningham, project leader of Apple Macintosh
  • Adam Shapiro as Avie Tevanian, Apple Computer Senior VP of Software Engineering

With a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin and a director like Boyle behind the camera, this one should be something very special indeed! One thing which hasn’t been revealed is a release date, but 2016 obviously seems likely.
