Steve-Carell-in-FoxcatcherLast seen behind the camera on the six-time Oscar-nominated Moneyball, Bennett Miller returns at the end of the year with his anticipated third feature, Foxcatcher.

Based on a true story, Sony Classics recently set a December US release date for the movie, lending even greater strength to the predictions that this will be a big Oscar contender for them early next year. And now EW have released the first image from the film, teasing a look at an almost unrecognisable Steve Carell.

FOXCATCHER tells the gripping, true story of Olympic Wrestling Champion brothers Mark Schultz (Tatum) and Dave Schultz (Ruffalo) and their relationship with the eccentric John du Pont (Carell), heir to the du Pont Chemical fortune that led to murder.

Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo lead the cast alongside Carell, with Sienna Miller, Vanessa Redgrave, and Anthony Michael Hall completing the ensemble very nicely.

Miller is directing from a script penned by E. Max Frye (Band of Brothers) and Dan Futterman (Capote), with Megan Ellison (Zero Dark Thirty, The Master) producing alongside the director.

Foxcatcher is due to begin its release in the US on December 20th, and will be heading across the Atlantic a few weeks later for its 17th January UK release date. In the meantime, here’s the first official image from the film. Let us know what you think of Carell with this impressive prosthetic nose in the comments below.
