Robert Rodriguez returns us to the world of Machete once more next year for the second film in the coming trilogy, Machete Kills.
Danny Trejo reprises his eponymous leading role, and after getting a great first official image of Trejo alongside Amber Heard last month, Alexa Vega has now put out our first official image of her in the film through Twitter.
“Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent MACHETE, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.”
Vega has of course worked with Rodriguez in the past, starring in all four of the Spy Kids films to date, and it’s easy to see that she’s very much grown up here in the image below, leaving her spying days behind her, trading up to become the assassin, KillJoy.
Trejo, Heard, and Vega star alongside a fantastic cast, headed up by Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofía Vergara, Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Demian Bichir, Cuba Gooding, Jr., and Vanessa Hudgens, making for one of the most promising and diverse casts of next year.
Rodriguez is back at the helm, directing from his own script, and with the original film gaining somewhat cult status in the past two years, things are looking good for the sequel.
Machete Kills is currently still without a release date set for the UK or US, but with an April 2013 set for Germany, here’s to hoping we’ll see it arriving in our theatres at roughly the same time. For now, here’s the first official look at Vega starring as KillJoy.
