After taking on Luke Evans and Jason Statham in the past couple of movies, the team of petrolheads will be squaring off with a female villain in Fast & Furious 8 played by Charlize Theron. Now, the first official image of the character has been released along with her name, Cipher. No more than that is known as of right now, but she looks great, that’s for sure!
However, she’s no stranger to blockbuster fare after starring in Mad Max and the (not that great) Huntsman: Winter’s War, and taking on a role in a series which performs as well as this is a smart career move for the actress who remains a fan-favourite choice to play Captain Marvel. So far, Fast and Furious 8’s ensemble looks to be the most impressive yet.
Theron is after all joining Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and a fair few other familiar faces who fans of these movies know and love.
Fast and Furious 8 is being directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton). James Wan did the previous instalment, but has been busy with The Conjuring 2 and has Aquaman lined up next. Justin Lin meanwhile didn’t return because he’s been shooting Star Trek Beyond.
With any luck, Theron will fare a little better here than in Sean Penn’s The Last Face…
