Mike Newell’s anticipated adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel, Great Expectations, will be making its world debut at TIFF next month, and after getting our first look at the great Ralph Fiennes as Magwitch earlier this month, the first international trailer has been released online, giving us an excellent first good look at the film.

Jeremy Irvine stars as the young Pip, and along with Fiennes will be joined by a great cast, headed up by Helena Bonham Carter, Holliday Grainger, Jason Flemyng, Robbie Coltrane, Sally Hawkins, and Ewen Bremner.

“Young orphan Pip is given a chance to rise from his humble beginnings thanks to a mysterious benefactor. Moving through London’s class ridden world as a gentleman, Pip uses his new found position to pursue the beautiful Estella; a spoilt heiress he’s loved since childhood. Yet the shocking truth behind his great fortune will have devastating consequences for everything he holds dear.

This adaptation of Charles Dickens’s classic and finest novel is directed by Mike Newell, produced by Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley, and written by acclaimed screenwriter and novelist David Nicholls.”

Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral) is behind the camera, directing from a script by David Nicholls (Starter for 10, One Day).

Great Expectations will be premiering at Toronto next month, and will be released in the UK on 30th November. No word yet on a US release, but hopefully it will secure distribution stateside following its festival debut. For now, enjoy this excellent first international trailer, which is thankfully subbed and not dubbed.
