There won’t be many people wandering around Cannes this week who don’t know the name Ben Wheatley, nor will they be unfamiliar with last year’s brutal thriller Kill List as it left quite a scar on the cinematic conscious with its uncompromising violence and delightful downward spiral into madness.

Wheatley’s next film, Sightseers, takes a more rural approach, though from the look of this first clip there is a similar air of threat in the sweet country air along with something altogether more earthy (you’ll know it when you see it – suffice to say don’t watch it while you’re eating).

What we do have is a good look at the interplay between the film’s stars and co-writers Alice Lowe and Steve Oram and there’s definitely something not right here – the closest I can call it is a cross between The Wicket Man and Nuts in May. Can’t wait…

Back to the crowd in Cannes, they will be able to see the film before most of us when it plays in the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, in the meantime here’s the clip which was found on the Mr and Mrs Wheatley blog.
